FUN FISHING AT MCGALLIARD FALLS

Scenic McGalliard Falls. On the first Saturday of June, the Valdese Recreation Department invites young and old fishers living in Valdese to a tournament at McGalliard Falls. The event is co-hosted by the local American Legion Post (#234) and in most years, draws about two-hundred and fifty youth and seniors to try their luck.

The competition is limited to youths 14 and under and seniors 55 and older and takes place in the creek above McGalliard Falls which is stocked with about twelve-hundred trout. There is a limit of seven rainbow trout per fisher and you must bring your own pole and bait. Trophies are awarded to the fisher catching the largest fish in each age group.

At noon, the Legion volunteers grill hot dogs and have a fish for the hungry competitors and their families. The event is a well-loved opportunity for families to gather and have a few hours of togetherness in a competitive, but friendly atmosphere.

You may pre-register, beginning in mid-May, by calling the Recreation Department at 879-2132.
