Valdese Public Works is one of the most visible departments in Town government.  This department is composed of four divisions:

• Public Works Administration

• Street

• Sanitation

• Water / Sewer Construction

Public Works Administration office receives all calls, request, and/or complaints and dispatches them to the proper division for resolution.  Public Works personnel also enforces the town's animal control ordinance protecting citizens by removing stray and dangerous animals from our neighborhoods. Public Works Maintenance services all town vehicles and equipment.

The Street Division is responsible for cleaning and making minor repairs to the town's streets and sidewalks, replacing street and highway signs, mowing public right-of-ways, cleaning debris from storm drainage system, picking up brush and junk, collecting leaves from roadside with a vacuum during the season and clearing ice/snow from streets during the winter months.

The Sanitation Division collects the town's residential and commercial solid waste and transfers it to the Burke County Landfill.  Recycling facilities are available to the residents of Valdese through this division.

The Water/Sewer Construction Division repairs water line breaks, installs new water and sewer lines, clears sewage lines, installs water and sewer taps, locates underground water and sewer lines for public utilities by request, and reads residential and commercial water meters.
